This month I have the pleasure of introducing Jorge Oliveira, a musician who is a very talented saxophonist.
I virtually met Jorge Oliveira through Instagram and I loved his style, very unique and authentic.
He's also one of Cinematic Alpha's testimonial for the last library SVBLIME EST, so in a way, a really nice friendship has formed.
Jorge Oliveira has a degree in Saxophone-performance from the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas de Castelo Branco (ESART) where he worked in choir with José Carlos Oliveira, Francisco Rodilha, and Hernho Park, and in Choral Direction with Gonçalo Lourenço.
He holds a Masters in Music Teaching – Instrument (Saxophone) and Ensemble Class from ESART.
Jorge Filipe Easter Oliveira was born in 1991 in Coimbra, where he began his musical studies on the saxophone at the age of 7 at the Escola de Música da Filarmónica Fraternidade Poiarense. At the age of 12, he was admitted to the Coimbra Music Conservatory (CMC) in saxophone, a course completed in 2012. That same year, he obtained 1st place in the Chamber Music Category at the Belgium-Neerpelt International Music Festival with the Saxophone Ensemble of the CMC.
He represented the school with an original composition at the Centro Cultural de Belém. He was part of groups such as Ensemble do CMC, Orquestra de Sopros de Coimbra, CMC Big Band, Muzzak Quarteto, and many others. He worked with names in the saxophone world such as Carlos Canhoto, Manuel Mijan, Jerome Laran, Claude Delangle, and others.
He represented ESART at the Palmela International Saxophone Festival (FISP) in 2016. He was part of the Insax Quartet and the ElDorado Quartet, where he took him to stages such as the Viseu International Music Festival in 2017, the 2nd European Saxophone Congress in 2017, the XVIII World Saxophone Congress in 2018 and the FISP in 2019.
He participated in improvement classes and orchestra conducting courses with Simão Francisco, Pedro Oliveira, Jean-Sébastien Béreau, and Tiago Alves. As a conductor, he has directed the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Stages of the Wind Orchestra and Percussion of Vila Nova de Poiares, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Stages of the Wind Orchestra and Percussion of S. Pedro de Alva; and the 1st Stage of the Saxophone Orchestra of the Dão.
He is coordinator and professor of the Music Schools of the Philharmonic Fraternidade Poiarense and of the Philharmonic of the Casa do Povo de São Pedro de Alva, saxophone teacher at the Artistic Training Center of the Gualdim Pais Philharmonic Society and the Poiarense Academy of Arts and Spectacles. He is also conductor of the Philharmonic Fraternidade Poiarense, Philharmonic of the Casa do Povo de S. Pedro do Alva, and the Mixed Choir of the Philharmonic Fraternidade Poiarense, as well as founder of the Poiarense Academy of Arts and Spectacles and of the Dão Saxophone Orchestra.
